This letter is written by Shaya French & Jason Wyman / Queerly Complex as part of a piece of political satire crafted for the Leather Alley Stage on Pride Sunday, June 28, 2026. It is in direct response to the ongoing fight for a People's Budget and a San Francisco City Hall that actually works for and serves the People of San Francisco. Below the letter, please find a video captured by Apple. The Leather Alley Stage was sponsored by Folsom Street Events and produced by Filthy Studios. Performers included Deyina Yuni Kaikyo, Lady Adjacent, Polly Bombshell, Shaya French, and the audience.
And now a Time-Traveling letter from 2036...
Dear Pride 2026 Attendees:
It is 2036, and I am writing you from an armchair at that book store in the Mission, Medicine for Nightmares. The billionaires have all been flogged. And we have survived. My best friends are sex workers, we’re kinky, we’re trans, we’re queer as fuck and we have lived through some shit but oh the future is so so much sweeter than where you are right now. I want to tell you about it.
We have an Indigenous Two-Spirit dyke for San Francisco Mayor, one who cannot be controlled by Billionaires! We have a mayor who has stood on the welfare line, who has lost a lover to AIDS, who has been detained by ICE. We have a Mayor who thinks the answer to people not having homes is to give them homes they can freely live in and age in dignity with care. A Mayor who believes We All deserve health care and safe use sites and whatever else we fucking need. We have a Mayor who took money from billionaires and the police to fund what We All need, ensuring our sweet, sweet liberation from those harming Us All.
It took longer for the Wave to hit San Francisco than some other cities. Of course New York City was the first in 2026, but that inspired others to rise up and fight back against billionaires in places like rural Appalachia, Surprise Arizona, Seattle, Washington DC, Minneapolis, Charlottesville, the Ozarks, Chicago, Kansas City, New Orleans, Santa Fe! All ignited by local fights against data centers and despair. Everywhere, we chased police out of our neighborhoods and reclaimed our streets.
Free child care and free buses and taxing the rich and making every building accessible and giving a shit about poor people and working class people stopped being unusual. It became essential if you wanted to have a real chance at office because people woke up and realized: We are the only ones who can make a change. We have a responsibility to fight and to WIN.
And what about Trump? When he tried to steal the midterm elections, we fought back. Neighbors educated neighbors about the things that make life better for each of us, and when they actually believed they could do something, they did.
It started in rural America, a place every politician had abandoned, a place that knows poverty and despair and divestment. This ignited movements in ten major cities, who said no fucking way. And soon suburbia followed because they didn't want to be left behind.
Day laborers and domestic workers stopped working, and shifted their labor to caring for all their neighbors. Then unionized dock workers shut down the ports and TSA went on strike. The ships had no one to unpack their cargo. The airports became abandoned. Inspired by a worker movement, tech workers and middle managers walked out. It crashed surveillance systems and weapons production and even made AI obsolete.
Every day, people like you and me caused massive destruction at data centers and the companies subjugating Us All like Blackstone and Amazon and SpaceXTesla and Oracle and Meta and Google and Palantir and GEO Group. We planned for months, picketed inside and out at Salesforce and Apple and OpenAi and Fox and the New York Times. It stopped lies being spread and gummed up communications so that every person could finally see: It's billionaires and their cronies who make our lives worse, who fund genocide, who need to be abolished. It stopped ICE in their tracks and without their private profits from forced labor they all shut down. And those billionaires? They stopped existing. They put their tail between their legs and went into hiding. Without them, there was no longer a possibility of Trump. Nor could any Democrat or Republican take their money. It changed politics forever. In fact, there's no longer two parties. There are many, each one fighting for the People and rooted in their communities meaning they have to respond to OUR demands for housing and healthcare and food security and a clean environment. And we've even started rematriating the land.
Oh it wasn’t easy, I still have scars from an altercation with an ICE agent. My chosen and blood family still sit around tables arguing about what's best for Us All. And sometimes the things our elected officials want are not what the people want. But now they actually listen and work towards compromises that care for Us All.
It’s also exhilarating. We showed up for each other and continue showing up for one another. We All are now firmly grounded in our collective community care. When we see someone in need, we do something about it together.
I need you to know this dear reader because this movement starts TODAY from a kinky stage at San Francisco Pride in 2026. Why here? Because today trans, queer, bi, gay, lesbian, intersex, Indigenous, Black, poor, working class, disabled, immigrant, and everyday people from all across this country gather here. We are the living body of resistance in action. The revolution starts with Us All.
And here's a close-up of me as host of the Leather Alley Stage.
