WHAT IS FLOG DENIM DAN?

Join my comrades and me on Sunday, September 27 for Flog Denim Dan at Folsom Street Fair. I'm inviting organizers and activists to join me in educating our community about the upcoming election, Trans March's demands of City Hall, and other local organizing efforts through a cheeky, interactive experience.

Curious passersby will be invited to flog me, Denim Dan, using a flogger I made out of shredded Levis. And after the flogging, I will reward them with a button that reads, "I flogged Denim Dan!"

WHERE DID FLOG DENIM DAN ORIGINATE?

I had the privilege of hosting the Leather Alley Stage on Pride Sunday thanks to Filthy Studios and Folsom Street Events. Part of my hosting included the Flogging of a denim clad billionaire trying to take over San Francisco. This act of performance artivism was crafted in response to San Francisco's mayor proposing budget cuts that would have hurt everyday San Franciscans. Thanks to collective community organizing we won back over $20 million dollars to Trans and HIV Services, tenant protections, cultural centers, and more.

WHY THIS? WHY NOW?

I co-create at the intersections of art, culture, and organizing. I believe we need fun ways to engage with one another, learn about what's happening in our communities, and get inspired to take action. I also have a lot of friends and comrades who make things move in San Francisco with many actions with looming deadlines, just around the corner.

So I decided to reach out to my community to see what might be possible. The response I'm getting is one of support, excitement, and jubilation. It seems that Denim Dan isn't quite as popular as his PR might tell him he is. And people really want to pitch in for a cheeky way to get the word out about what we can do to fight back against the Billionaires trying to control absolutely everything.

Plus! I've recently been satirizing Denim Dan on Instagram. It started as an audition for a performance about the Mayor. I've kept it going cause it's fun; people really seem to really enjoy it. And who am I to disappoint?

WHAT IS THE MONEY GOING TO?

GOAL: $2,000

COSTS:

$600 - Folsom Street Registration (Booth, Tables, Chairs)
$250 - Refreshment & Supplies (water, snacks, pin materials, etc.)
$200 - Day of Support (3 hours, 11-2)
$200 - Day of Support (3 hours, 1-4)
$200 - Day of Support (3 hours, 3-6)
$150 - Tent
$200 - Liability Insurance
$200 - Administration

Note: Day of Support will be going to trans and queer artists and performers.
