HELP! Seeking Suggestions for Art Project Data Management Hell

Jason Wyman looking exacerbated with crossed eyes and their right hand up wearing an orange FTP beanie set against purple and green background.

Have you ever been in the predicament where....

You need something from your computer / external / Google Drive / Dropbox, and...

You know exactly where it is, are certain beyond certain, and...

You head directly there, open the file folder, and...

It is no where to be found, so...

You spend the next two hours scouring every single place it could be, and...

After becoming cross-eyed and pulling out some ear hairs, you almost give up, and...

Then you remember one forgotten email, so...

You decide to login to that, but...

You forgot the password, so...

You figure out how to reset the whole thing, and...

It works, so...

You actually login, and...

YOU FIND THE THING YOUR LOOKING FOR?

Yea, me neither. Cause I didn't actually find the thing I was looking for. I did, however, find loads of other things I wasn't really looking for. And I realized, I have a total mess of pictures, videos, links, and documents across numerous accounts, hard drives, and platforms.

I am wondering if this might be a familiar feeling, especially to other artists (of any discipline) who are constantly having to track data across numerous projects, partnerships, clients, and themes.

And if so, might you have some ideas, suggestions, ways of collecting / archiving / categorizing them that work for you?

I want to put together a short collectively co-created guide that offers tips and suggestions for simple data management. Cause I know that I'm not the only one dealing with this, and it would be hella helpful to have some queer & comrade community support in figuring this out together.

So, do you have ideas / suggestions / links to resources? If so, please leave a comment or get in touch.
