ART BUILDS for the SF People's Budget EVERY THURS in May!

I am a Steering Committee member of the San Francisco People's Budget Coalition, and we are in a fight for the essential services that support our most vulnerable neighbors. Services like the ones Miss Major Alexander L. Lee TGIJP Black Trans Cultural Center, Open House, LYRIC, SOMCAN, HOMEY, Hospitality House, and more provide. And it's coming at a time when cuts are also being made at the federal and state level to these exact same neighbors and communities.

I co-created Thursdays Are for Queers and Comrades for such a moment. At the end of 2025, I saw what was coming: bigger, bolder, more brazen attacks against Trans, Black, Indigenous, Brown, Immigrant, Poor, Unhoused, Queer, Disabled, Senior, Youth, and Substance Using neighbors. I reached out to my community to ask for help creating a reliably consistent structure that could meet this moment. Queer Art Club, Tray Smith, Crystal Mason, Olive, and Fivestar all stepped up and said, YES! Let's roll up our sleeves and make something together. We've been at it for four months already.

Now, we are here to meet THIS MOMENT, a moment that needs ART & CULTURE as balm in the here and now, as clarion call for others to join us in the fight, as celebration of what's made possible when expression fuels movements. So we are turning every Thursday in May into a sort-of ART BUILD for the People's Budget. We'll help string together postcards, make posters to distribute, make some media to assert This Is OUR San Francisco, and educate one another about the budget, the election, and what's happening locally.

Thursdays are also a great way to get plugged into larger actions we'll be taking now through June as we demand Mayor Lurie Find the Money and Restore the Cuts!
