YEEEEEE!!! We – Crystal Mason, Vanessa Rodriguez Minero, Trayvon Smith, and Priya Prabhakar, and me – went to Fresno, California this past weekend (August 23, 2025) for the Queer Housing Summit @queerhousingsummit. We brought with us laughter, joy, deep conversation, and art by Adiean Dae Neon | Alan Tello | Amalia Macias-Laventure | Arien Reed | Arthur Jackson V | Arthur Robinson | Ash Phillips | Bee Grealy | Dottie Lux | Ed Gonzalo | Elliot Baliey | Faaolatoto Griffin / Koko G | faustina ngo | Gerardo Gama | Hillary Chin | Hillary Brown | Isaac Saenz | Jason Wyman | Jax Holmes | JoJo Ty | Kazani Finao | Lane Michael Stanley | Lee Harvey Roswell | Leslie St Dre | Mark McBeth | Michelle Feng | Nancy Cato | Neut | Paisley Mares | Pampi D | Robert Arambel | Sabriaya Shipley | Sophia Rose | Therese Davis | Toshio Meronek | Trayvon Smith | Vanessa Rodriguez Minero | Vishinna Turner | Wilder Zeiser | Yesenia Veamatahau | Zander Moreno Lozano | zeb restrepo | Zelda aka Judith Z. Miller.
The whole weekend was a testament to the power of QUEER FAMILY in bridging generations, cultures, identities, politics, and geographies as we made new friends, fam, and comrades all fighting for housing, land use, and spatial justice. Each of these folks is deep deep family. Family I will continue to show up for time and again. Family who I want to ensure make it to a future where trans and queer peoples thrive! This family is rooted in care & laughter & truth & conversation & consent & autonomy & witnessing & joy & art & LOVE. These last few days feel like what (as Crystal frequently challenges) it can be like after abolition: a motley crew of intergenerarional Black, immigrant, Mexican, Pacifica, Punjabi, Indigenous, femme, butch, nonbinary, neurodivergent beloveds pooling resources so we all have more than enough for all of us to also give back not just to each other but to the wider cosmos. It is a family of reciprocity.
Much love to all that made all this possible for there are many hands that made light work of it all.
Check out the Queerly Complex website for a closer look at the art in both a VIRTUAL GALLERY designed by Hamza Kubba and a VIRTUAL CATALOG hosted on the Internet Archive.
NOTE: I / Queerly Complex is a proud sponsor of the 3rd Annual Queer Housing Summit.
