Flash: Camaraderie
Flash (noun): a sudden burst / a brief display / a short summary / a symbolic occurrence. (verb): To burst suddenly / to display for a brief moment / to give a short summary / to occur symbolically. (adjective): sudden / brief / short / symbolic.
I am obsessed with ideas & symbols. Something will just flash into my head, and I suddenly have to draw it as a simple line drawing. I’ll set it aside, and come back to it every so often. Often, this process reveals another flash of insight, a word, phrase, quote. Repeated enough these flashes create a glossary of concepts that include symbol, word, definition, and (a) guiding quote(s). This glossary can then be used to better communicate the complexity and depth of Queerly Complex creations.
Check out our Collabs page to see how we’ve used Flash to map what we are co-creating with other Queerdos and our comrades
Camaraderie: A spirit / feeling / experience of goodwill / rapport / familiarity / belonging / inclusion among comrades / neighbors / friends / family / relations.
“When you live in the community, you make friends and they support you in your advocacy and in raising your son when you have questions and when you have to make major decisions in your life. When you live in the community, you don’t have to depend on staff for all of your support, and you get to support others as well. You develop networks that you could never have in the institution. I’ve see this happen for so many people, including people with severe disabilities.” Ricardo T. Thornton Sr., “We Can’t Go Back,” Disability Visibility

Queerly Complex selected Next Level 3600 t-shirts because of the way they fit our bodies and feel upon our skin. They end just below the waist, have fitted sleeves, and the body is straight with seams running down both sides. They are perfect for all kinds & sizes of bodies. PLUS! They are 100% combed ring-spun cotton, so they are soft to the touch and get softer with each wash.
Some washing & care instructions:
Queer Comfortwear is our armor as we go out into a world hostile towards Queerdos. It’s soft to the touch, bold on the eye, and hangs just a wee bit loose, which means it fits perfectly. When you put it on, you feel more at ease with who you are and able to say what you want, need, or desire to say. Queerly Complex Queer Comfortwear will become your absolute favorite apparel any time you just want to be you.
For John, Queer Comfortwear started as a black t-shirt, the one piece of apparel he’s worn every day for over three decades. It started with band tees, like Coil, Soft Cell, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Wearing them helped him find his people in 80s and 90s LA, people he’s still dear friends with today. John learned the simple black t-shirt is more than just a tee. It’s a canvas upon which you can broadcast a message that helps you find fellow Queerdos and our comrades.
Queer Comfortwear for Jason could be a dress, a hoodie, a pair of sweats or leggings, a cap, a blouse. It is any piece of apparel that can go from cooking in the kitchen to lounging in the park to dancing on the dancefloor and still feels like it belongs. Jason’s played with gender their whole adult life, so Queer Comfortwear is any item you adore because it adorns you in a way that helps you be who you want, need, and desire to be.
